GEFCO creates GEFCARES, an endowment fund for charities

26 February 2019

GEFCO is proud to announce the launch of its first endowment fund, GEFCARES, designed to bring human, financial and material support to charities. This initiative reflects the “Infinite Proximity” culture that drives GEFCO Group’s partnership-based relationships.

Four partner associations in 2019

After more than a year of efforts by GEFCO employees and partners, GEFCARES will support four well-known French and international charities in 2019: Les Restaurants du Cœur, Le Palais de la Femme, Avenir Enfance Togo and Institut de l’Engagement:

  • Les Restaurants du Cœur (Restaurants from the Heart) was founded in France in 1985 to provide free meals to struggling individuals and families, while participating in their social and economic integration.
  • Le Palais de la Femme (The Women’s Palace) was founded by the French Salvation Army in 1926 to prevent the social exclusion of women by providing long-term housing and assistance with integrating the workplace.
  • Avenir Enfance Togo (The Togolese Children’s Charity) is a Togolese NGO founded in 2008 to support underprivileged children, widows and families in Lomé, the capital city, through educational and work access programmes.
  • Institut de l’Engagement (Institute of Engagement) was founded in 2012 to help 3,000 young volunteers pursue their plans for the future every year, while providing comprehensive mentoring to help 700 other individuals achieve their professional goals.

GEFCARES will support these charities throughout the year, by providing project funding, mobilizing volunteers to help carry out their missions or managing logistics for their sites.

This assistance complements the humanitarian work already undertaken locally in most of the countries where GEFCO operates.

A fund sustained by employees, clients and suppliers

The main purpose of the GEFCO endowment fund is to raise funds and redistribute them to partner associations. These funds are raised mainly by employees, although clients and suppliers are also involved, in line with the group’s partnership approach.

GEFCARES is managed by a Supervisory Board chaired by Pierre-Jean Lorrain, Member of the GEFCO Management Board and Executive Vice President for Central Europe, Balkans, Middle East, Western Europe and Mediterranean. He will be assisted in his role by three administrators: Emmanuel Cheremetinski, Member of the GEFCO Management Board and Executive Vice President for Overland, Warehousing, Reusable Packaging and Finished Vehicule Logistics, Susan Marro, Executive Vice President Communications, and Stéphane Milhet, Executive Vice President Human Resources.
