As an official partner of the project, the company controlled all aspects of the automobile transportation of participants’ ships and equipment of 8 stages of the National Sailing League’s Higher and Premier divisions and the Russian Championship in the J / 70 class.
As last year, a detailed plan was developed for each individual regatta, in accordance with which a wide range of logistics services was provided to all teams. Since the beginning of the season, which fell in the spring of 2019, GEFCO has been organizing the transportation of ships and equipment to Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad and Sochi.
GEFCO announced the start of partnerships with the National Sailing League - the largest project of the All-Russian Sailing Federation – in 2018. The long-term expertise in the automotive logistics enabled the company to ensure the successful transportation of ships and equipment for sailing regattas with geography from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok.
“For our project it is a great honor to cooperate with GEFCO,” said Igor Ignatov, Director General of the National Sailing League. – We are very pleased that for the second season in a row, our fleet and equipment have been traveling around the country with a reliable carrier. The solution of non-traditional tasks and the operational management of all processes are the advantages of our logistics partner, which are difficult to overestimate. We hope that our cooperation will continue and expand, as we have new routes, cities and water areas ahead.”
For GEFCO, cooperation with the National Sailing League is a great opportunity to demonstrate logistics solutions at the highest level and to confirm our expert position in the market, offering optimal and efficient solutions even for technically challenging tasks.
Logistic support for sailing in Russia is not the first major GEFCO sports project. Such cooperation is an important part of the Group’s activities around the world. Earlier, in 2017, GEFCO provided logistic support to skipper Ivan Bournon, who single-handedly traveled from Alaska to Greenland through the Northwest Passage, among the ice of the Arctic, on a sports catamaran and set a world record. GEFCO transported his six-meter catamaran from the port of Antwerp (Belgium) to Nome in an extremely short time, which allowed him to raise the anchor in time and set sail during the ice melting. The project was fully implemented by the GEFCO Freight Forwarding division specializing in multimodal transportation.
We are pleased to continue cooperation this year. Transport support of sailing regattas within the framework of the geography of our country is a technically difficult project, primarily because of the constant change of locations. This is an interesting experience for the company and another challenge that we are ready for. The successful experience of the past season showed that GEFCO can be a reliable and significant logistic partner of sailing in Russia.
